3 Reasons Why Redbox Became Popular

In just a few years, Redbox has become one of the most popular ways to watch movies.

With their innovative, movie rental kiosks, Redbox has captured nearly 40% of the movie rental market, vying for control with the likes of Blockbuster and Netflix.

But what makes Redbox so popular? Why have they succeeded in a challenging industry? Here are three reasons why Redbox has become so popular, and succeeded where others failed.

1. Renting from Redbox is Convenient

While I will be the first to say that Netflix is very convenient, and Blockbuster and other Video stores did a good job locating in convenient places, it is hard to beat the ability to run an errand to the grocery store, and grab a movie on the way out from Redbox.

Redbox has over 42,000 kiosks scattered around the United States at locations customers are already going to, such as grocery stores, retail stores, fast food restaurants and convenience stores. This makes renting a movie from one of these kiosks

To find a Redbox Kiosk, just use the Locator!

2. Redbox Keeps the Price Low

For other movie rental businesses, the cost is typically more significant, but you get more from it, either longer rental time, or more movie rentals. But with Redbox, you pay a single rate for one movie rental, for one night. This keeps the price low for customers who only want to rent the movie, watch it and return it the next day. For those preferring to keep the movie for a few days, they are charged the same rate for each additional day.

The low price Redbox charges makes it easy to rent a movie for the night without worrying about how much one is spending. This one night flat rental fee was innovative, and is slowly being adopted by other video rental stores.

Plus, they offer promotional codes for free movie rentals, making it more than affordable, its free!

3. Redbox has Good Selection

Redbox keeps its selection of DVDs updated by adding movies that recently became available on DVD and Blu-ray to its kiosks. Nearly every week, and sometimes more often than that, recent movie releases are added to provide customers with the latest movies to choose from.

While Redbox cannot stock the incredible selection that Netflix or even Blockbuster has to offer, they focus on providing the most recent movies, which are most often the most popular.

In the tough video rental industry, Redbox has met the needs of a large group of consumers by providing convenience, low price, and good selection.
